Mizen Head, Ireland's most South-westerly Point! The signal station was built in 1905 to protect ships from the cliffs during foggy nights. The location is spectacular with high cliffs and crashing waves. There's a nice cafe in the visitor's centre offering lots of homemade dishes. You can have a go in the Navigational Aids Simulator which gives you the experience of steering a real ship. |

Whale and Dophin watching in West Cork |
|
West Cork is one of the best places in Europe for watching whales, dophins and porpoises. There are many sightings of Minke Whales, Fin Whales, Short Beaked Common and Harbour porpoises and Humpback Whales are often seen later in the year. The Whale Watch boat Voyager was specially designed with spacious decks, seating, covered wheelhouse and flushing toilets. Nic Slocum is a qualified zoologist and holds a PhD. He has appeared on radio and television and has over 20 years experience so he is ideally qualified to conduct tours for all age groups. The Voyager leaves from Baltimore Harbour or Reen Pier which is approximately 30 minutes from Schull to either place. It is necessary to reserve places by calling 086 120 0027 or 028 33357. |
